Martin CTM D-28-Swiss/ Cocobolo
Custom shop 2014
Gem made by Martin Custom Shop has arrived! Guitars made at Martin’s custom shop are made almost by hand, with a selection of craftsmen on a completely different line than the regular line. Therefore, even a slight change in specifications will make the product considerably more expensive than the regular model, but the finish and sound will be more different than the specifications! This time the arrival is D-28 Cocobolo, which was produced in 2014 at the Martin Custom Shop. Needless to say, it is a gem customized based on D-28, which is one of Martin’s classics!
Solid Swiss Spruce TOP, Solid Cocobolo SIDE & BACK, Select Hardwood NECK, Ebony Fingerboard & Bridge, Forward Shift Scallop Bracing, Drop-in Short Saddle, Measured 43.1mm Nut, Low Profile Neck Grip, 25.4 inch scale dread note body. Rare materials are used for the body material, and the simple finish without herringbone trim is strangely fresh, although it is basically a pre-war D-28 spec such as scallop bracing, tortoiseshell pattern PG, and aging toner finish. It has a beautiful and chewy appearance. A splendid tiger heather emerges on the head plate and the back of the cocobolo, and this is also a heather fetish (laughs)!
The sound is a gorgeous and elastic beautiful sound like Martin! You can feel the crispy feeling of the cocobolo body, but the warm and plump sound that is typical of Martin is excellent, and the sound is voluminous yet gentle to the ears. If you squeal with a flat pick, you will get a powerful sound with a good rise and a long distance, but the ear feel is still gentle, and you can feel the feminine suppleness in the powerful sound. If you flip your fingernail with your fingernail, the mid-low range with plenty of overtones will be entwined with the lustrous and stretchy treble, and you will be able to play a sound with good graininess and moist sensuality, so you can play in any genre or play. I think that you can enjoy the highly complete sound unique to Martin Custom Shop in style!
The condition of the instrument is almost the same as a new one with almost no scratches! There are no noticeable scratches at first glance, and even if it is said to be new, it maintains a beautiful state without any discomfort. If you hold it over the light and look around, you will find two very small and shallow spots of about 2 mm on the side of the sound hole on the 6th string side of the body top, but since the paint film is only slightly dented, it is normal. It is a level that you do not notice at first when you are watching. You can find one similar scratch on the elbow when you play the 6th string, but if you ask me, it’s a very small scratch, so if you think of it as a used item, you can say it. There will be no. Other than that, there is no trace of picking on the PG, and no thread is found on the body back. Judging from the total, I think the condition is as good as new!
The angle of the neck has been adjusted once, and the angle of the neck has been adjusted perfectly. The neck condition is also good and straight, and the current string height is 2.5 mm on the 6th string side and 2.0 mm on the 1st string side on the 12th fret, which is the best setting. There is still plenty of room in the saddle, so you can make further fine adjustments to the string height. There is a slight decrease in the frets on the low frets, but the height of about 90% of the original remains even in the place where it is the most decreased.
The list price at the time of new product was 836.000 yen, which was not a handy guitar, but I think that it is a super bargain gem at this price in almost new condition!
